Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, Peterborough director of football Barry Fry believes Wilfried Zaha will find it hard to secure a transfer away from Crystal Palace this summer.

The 28-year-old told The Face back in May that he would not turn down a move to a top club and feels he is capable of playing at that level.

Since then, it has emerged that both Tottenham and Everton are keen on him as they look to improve their options out wide.

Can Palace keep Zaha for another season?

Fry has warned, though, that chairman Steve Parish will not sell for cheap, making a transfer difficult.

“It’s a difficult one they’re facing,” Fry said. “They can’t let him go cheap, but he’s clearly unhappy. Knowing Steve, he would’ve promised Zaha, ‘Stay another season and we’ll do what we can.’

“But there isn’t the money about this year that was about last year and particularly the year before, that is the problem now. Players that were worth 50, 60, 75 million are only worth half that, and there’s only a handful of clubs who can give you it.”

Disappointing for Zaha but it would come as a relief to Patrick Vieira, who will not want to lose the Ivory Coast international.

He was Palace’s top scorer in the Premier League last season with 11 goals, showing his importance to the side. Losing that instantly is not how any new manager would like to start their tenure.
