Chelsea should take a punt on Southampton striker Danny Ings this summer, that is according to football.london‘s Sam Inkersole.

The Blues are in the market for a new forward, failing so far in their mission to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland. According to Sky Sports, they recently had an informal proposal rejected by the Bundesliga side.

Meanwhile, Ings has turned down a new contract offer at Southampton as he seeks a new challenge.

Would you take Ings?

For Inkersole, while Ings may not be a name that will get Chelsea fans jumping up and down in excitement, the west London club could do a lot worse than the 28-year-old.

“He’s a proven goalscorer in the Premier League,” the Chelsea journalist said in a chat with TIF. Chelsea need someone who can score goals in the Premier League.

“Danny Ings is obviously not the sexiest name out there, but I personally think, especially if Tammy Abraham did go this summer, I think Danny Ings would be the perfect person to fill that void. I think it’s worth a punt.”

If Chelsea cannot sign Haaland this summer and Thomas Tuchel feels he desperately needs a new striker, Ings is by no means a terrible shout.

The Southampton man has really shown his capability in front of goal of late, registering 22 times back in the 2019/20 Premier League season and 12 times in the most recent campaign, helping take his overall tally in English football’s top flight to 55.
