Arsenal journalist Charles Watts has talked about Aston Villa’s chase of Gunners midfielder Emile Smith Rowe.
The English midfielder recently signed a new deal with the Gunners and has also been given the number jersey by the Gunners. The new contract for Smith Rowe came some weeks after Aston Villa had made an offer to sign the midfielder.
Is Smith-Rowe's contract signing a blow for Villa?
Watts talked about Villa’s links with a move for Smith Rowe when he appeared in the latest video on his YouTube channel. The journalist stated that there was never any chance that the midfielder was going to sign for Dean Smith’s men this summer.
He stated: “Arsenal announcing the news yesterday, which is fantastic news, puts an end to all the speculation – it was always only speculation, as I mentioned every time I spoke about it.
“There was never any chance that Emile Smith Rowe was going to be leaving Arsenal this summer. All those bids from Aston Villa – fair play to Villa for trying, but they were never going to get him.”
TIF Thoughts on Smith Rowe to AVFC rumours…
As things stand, Villa don’t have a senior out-and-out option in the attacking midfield position. While Jacob Ramsey can play there, he isn’t exactly a first-team regular at present, though that could change soon enough.
Smith Rowe could’ve filled that position well and considering his performances last season, which saw him net four times and assist on eight occasions, he could have been a good addition for the side. He is still pretty young and could improve in the future, so this may be a blow for Villa having missed out.
