Aston Villa journalist Ashley Preece has been sharing some insight into the potential incoming transfers that could happen at Villa Park during the current summer window.

This comes after Preece made an appearance on a recent Q&A episode of the Birmingham Mail’s Claret & Blue Podcast, where he answered a range of questions concerning the Midlands club.

On the subject of potential incoming transfers at Villa this summer, Preece had this to say.

He said: “I expect Villa’s business to ramp up now the Euros has concluded, obviously, and I expect more names to be in the frame.

“I think we’ll get some new names coming to fruition of late in terms of transfer targets. Obviously, Villa like to do their business behind closed doors and are very secretive of that, and any leaks that get out, they do annoy Johan Lange and the club, so yeah, that’s fair enough.

“I can’t see too much business being done, I can see two, three additions happening in the next couple of weeks.”

TIF Thoughts on Ashley Preece’s comments on potential incoming transfers at Villa…

Villa ended their 2020/21 Premier League season in 11th place with 55 points after finishing their previous season in 17th place with just 35 points (per Transfermarkt).

Their efforts to improve on that standing has seen Villa sign Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City and Ashley Young on a free transfer from Italian champions Inter.

As well as these players, the club has also been heavily linked with a move for Arsenal midfielder Emile Smith Rowe and Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse.

Taking into account what Preece had to say and the fact that the club has let go of full-backs Neil Taylor and Ahmed Elmohamady this summer, perhaps the next incoming signings should be new full-backs to replace the departed duo, in our view.
