Dean Windass has exclusively told This is Futbol that Arsenal and James Tarkowski would be an ideal match for one another.

The Burnley centre-back, who’s racked up 159 Premier League appearances since joining from Brentford, was strongly linked with West Ham 12 months ago, but ended up staying with the Clarets.

However, Tarkowski has now entered the final year of his contract at Turf Moor and is once again being linked away from Burnley – with the Clarets wanting to avoid a situation which could see the 28-year-old leave for nothing next summer.

Tarkowski has been a key part of a stubborn Burnley defence that have helped them remain in the Premier League for the past five seasons, with the defender missing just a handful of matches.

In what month did Mikel Arteta take over as the Arsenal boss?

And with Mikel Arteta yet to find a settle centre-back pairing during his time as Arsenal manager, not helped by William Saliba being loaned out once again and David Luiz’s departure, Windass thinks that Tarkowski would fit in well at the Emirates.

He told TIF:

“That would appeal to Tarkowski – leaving Burnley for Arsenal. There’s been a lot of rumours about him, and you could see that fit.

“The Arsenal fans would like that.”
