Football journalist Ian McGarry has been sharing some insight regarding Arsenal attacker Eddie Nketiah and his current situation at the north London club.

This comes after McGarry co-hosted a recent episode of The Transfer Window Podcast where he spoke about a range of transfer-related topics.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

On the subject of Nketiah and his current situation at Arsenal, McGarry had this to say.

He said: “Nketiah himself has one year left in his contract, was attracting interest from other less prominent Premier League sides, but he has been offered a new deal at Arsenal, it’s our understanding, but is refusing to sign, and Arsenal also don’t want him to be going out on loan in the circumstances – understandable given that he would just be running his contract down playing for another club.”

Nketiah signed to Arsenal’s U18 side back in 2015 on a free transfer from Chelsea’s youth side. Since then, Nketiah has played his way through Arsenal’s youth teams and had a loan spell at Leeds United.

The 22-year-old, who is currently valued at £14.4 million, made his senior debut for Mikel Arteta’s side back in September 2018 in a Europa League clash under former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

TIF Thoughts on Ian McGarry’s comments on Nketiah and his current situation at Arsenal…

Given how Nketiah only made 17 appearances for Arsenal in the Premier League last season, starting just four of them, it would be understandable if the Englishman was reluctant to sign a new deal at the club if he doesn’t feel like he has much chance of being a regular starter for them.

Would you be disappointed if Nketiah left Arsenal this summer?

No

In our view, if Nketiah wouldn’t be guaranteed regular playing time in the Premier League next season at Arsenal ahead of the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette, then he should perhaps look to join a club this summer where he would be playing regularly and can be appreciated before the club risk losing him on a free transfer next summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal by then.
