Journalist Charles Watts has recently talked about Arsenal’s links with a move for Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar.

Lyon star Aouar is said to be open about a move to the Premier League and his club could be willing to sell him for a fee of €25 million (£21.3 million) this summer. Arsenal reportedly have the Frenchman on their shortlist but haven’t made any offer for him (as per ESPN).

Is Aouar good enough for Arsenal?

Watts appeared in the latest video on his YouTube channel to discuss the links with Aouar. The journalist dropped his verdict on the potential move, saying that signing him for a fee of around £20-£25 million would be a good deal for the Gunners.

He said: “Arsenal were so determined to get Houssem Aouar last summer, they didn’t manage to get it done. You’re looking at £45-£50 million last summer – if you can get him for just a little bit above £20 million, that has to be a good deal, for me. He’s young – yes, he didn’t have the best of seasons last season, but he had a whole summer of transfer speculation last summer, that can turn people’s heads.”

TIF Thoughts on Aouar to Arsenal…

23-year-old Aouar picked up a rating of only 6.83/10 in the 2020/21 campaign, which was his lowest WhoScored rating for a league season since the 2016/17 term. So the season clearly wasn’t a great one, as Watts himself points out.

But even though it was not a great campaign, he still managed to contribute to ten goals in the league, which isn’t too bad at all.

For a player who contributes to goals regularly from the middle of the park, paying a fee of around £20 million may not be a bad deal at all and if Arsenal can pull it off, it could be a very useful move.
