Arsenal journalist Charles Watts has been sharing some insight into the north London club’s potential signing of RSC Anderlecht midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

This comes after Watts uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel, where he spoke about a range of topics concerning Mikel Arteta’s side.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

On the subject of Lokonga, who has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium in recent weeks, Watts had this to say on the situation.

He said: “You can sort of tick that box, it’s done and dusted. He’s over here, he’s waiting for the end of his isolation period for it all to be finished.

“I think he’s already actually been to London Colney at the latter stages of this week to get photos and all that sort of stuff done, so I think it’s just a case of waiting on an announcement, no one needs to fret or worry about it or anything like that – it’s going to happen.

“It’s going to be announced, he’s going to be the second Arsenal signing of the summer behind Nuno Tavares.”

As a product of Anderlecht’s youth academy, Lokonga made his senior debut for the Belgian side back in December 2017 in a 1-0 league victory over KAS Eupen. Since then, the 21-year-old, who is currently valued at £10.8 million, has made 78 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring three goals and providing seven assists in the process (per Transfermarkt).

TIF Thoughts on Charles Watts’ comments on Lokonga…

Listening to what Watts had to say, it seems as though it’s now only a matter of time until Lokonga is officially unveiled as an Arsenal player.

If the deal does go through, it will be interesting to see whether or not the midfielder will be put straight into Arsenal’s senior squad or with the Under-23s.

In our view, with current Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka reportedly close to signing to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma, perhaps his potential exit could open a place for Lokonga as a regular figure in Arteta’s squad if he feels he has the quality.
