Arsenal journalist Charles Watts has been sharing some details surrounding the north London club’s reported transfer interest in Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.

This comes after Watts recently uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel where he spoke about the latest talking points surrounding Mikel Arteta’s side.

Who scored the opening goal in Liverpool's 4-3 win over Leeds United at Anfield in September?

On the subject of their interest in signing Neves this summer, Watts had this to say.

He said: “Arsenal are interested in Ruben Neves, but as far as I’m aware, it hasn’t gone beyond that stage yet, there’s been no sort of firm offer made or anything like that.

“It’s just been informal talks with Wolves, it happened a long time ago, right towards the start of the window; Arsenal putting the feelers out with various players because they know that Granit Xhaka, more than likely, will not be here next season – that move to Roma everyone expects will eventually get done once negotiations sort of reach a level that everyone is happy at, if not happened yet.”

Wolves signed Neves back in the 2017 summer transfer window from FC Porto in a deal worth a reported fee of £16.11 million.

Since then, the 24-year-old, who is currently valued at £40.5 million according to Transfermarkt, has made a total of 176 appearances for the Old Gold across all competitions, in which he has managed to score 20 goals and provide 10 assists in the process.

TIF Thoughts on Charles Watts’ comments on Arsenal’s interest in Neves…

Given how, as Watts mentioned, current Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has been heavily linked with a move to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma this summer, perhaps the north London club see Neves as a potential suitable replacement for him, especially with Neves having made 109 appearances in the Premier League with Wolves.

No

However, in our view, taking into account how Watts explained that no progress has been made since their informal talks at the start of the summer window, this suggests to us that Neves may not be an immediate priority for the club given how much time has passed and with the club being linked with other players such as Ben White, Nuno Tavares and Albert Sambi Lokonga.
