West Brom face a tough task in signing Chelsea youngster Trevoh Chalobah this summer, Express & Star journalist Luke Hatfield has warned.

According to the Express & Star, West Brom are keen to bring in Chalobah as they look to strengthen their midfield. However, they face competition from Premier League new boys Brentford, while the 22-year-old is also said to be attracting interest from Europe.

Chalobah is a very versatile player, able to play in midfield and central defence, making him a very appealing option.

Will West Brom win the race for Chalobah?

Bringing him in, though, is not going to be easy, says Hatfield. On the former England U21 international, he told TIF:

“It’s going to be tougher for Albion if there is Premier League interest. He’s clearly a player that they like, clearly one that they think will fit in and can do a job for them. But if there’s Premier League interest, it’s going to be tough.

“But if those Premier League teams aren’t guaranteeing him firstteam opportunities as much as West Brom are, maybe he thinks development in the Championship might be better for him.

“He’s certainly a player Albion like and will want.”

Chalobah has already played in the Championship with both Huddersfield Town and Ipswich Town so has a good amount of experience at that level for his age.

That and his versatility could make him a really good signing for the Baggies, so Valerien Ismael will be eager for them to see off competition from Brentford.
