Leeds United YouTuber Joe Wainman has been sharing his thoughts on a potential summer transfer move for Olympique Lyon left-back Maxwel Cornet.

This comes after Wainman recently uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel, where he spoke about a range of topics concerning Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

After it was recently reported that fellow Premier League side Burnley are readying a £13 million bid for Cornet, who has been linked with a move to Elland Road in recent weeks, Wainman had this to say on the situation.

He said: “This may be arrogance, it may come across as arrogant, but listen – there is no competition there between Leeds United and Burnley.

“If we wanted Maxwel Cornet, we would get Maxwel Cornet, there is no way he chooses Sean Dyche and Burnley over Bielsa and Leeds United, just cold hard facts.

“We’re not in for Cornet – yes, apparently we tabled the £10m bid, we had reports from Lyon showing, like us Leeds fans do, we track the planes, they were saying he’s on his way to Leeds Bradford airport etc – it’s not happening.

“There’s no competition between us and Burnley for Maxwel Cornet. Let Burnley have their man and I hope he enjoys his stay there at Turf Moor.”

Cornet signed to Lyon back in the 2015 January transfer window from FC Metz for a fee of £360k.

The 24-year-old, who is currently valued at £10.8 million according to Transfermarkt, has made a total of 251 senior appearances for Lyon across all competitions, in which he has scored 51 goals and provided 29 assists in the process.

TIF Thoughts on Joe Wainman’s comments on Cornet…

With the report that revealed Burnley’s apparent intention to put in a bid for Cornet this summer also suggesting that Leeds are “unlikely to return” to making an attempt to sign the defender after supposedly deciding against meeting Lyon’s reported asking price, perhaps a move to Elland Road won’t be on the cards for Cornet this summer.

Also, with Leeds recently securing Junior Firpo from Barcelona, perhaps they don’t need to sign another left-back such as Cornet during the current transfer window, in our view.
