Leeds United pundit Joe Wainman has been sharing his thoughts on the possibility of the Yorkshire club making a potential move to sign Mikkel Damsgaard from Italian club Sampdoria during the current summer transfer window.

This comes after Wainman recently uploaded a video onto his YouTube channel where he spoke about a number of topics concerning Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

After it was recently reported in Italy that Leeds and fellow Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Damsgaard this summer, Wainman had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Mikkel Damsgaard is a player that I would absolutely love.

“I think you’d be very hard-pushed to find many Leeds fans that wouldn’t want Mikkel Damsgaard and it just feels for me it’s a little bit out of our reach, I think Tottenham are interested as well.

“Mikkel Damsgaard will go on to have a great career and he’ll be wanted by a number of clubs but when I saw that [report] yesterday early doors thinking wow, is their actual substance to this, are Leeds United maybe looking at Conor Gallagher on a loan due to the fact they want to keep some funds back to pay for someone like Mikkel Damsgaard?

“It would be an amazing signing and it would tick off a great window if we got [Junior] Firpo, Gallagher and then signed it off with Mikkel Damsgaard, but I just feel it’s a little bit out of our reach.”

Damsgaard joined Sampdoria back in September last year from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland for a fee of £6.08 million.

Since then, the 21-year-old, who is currently valued at £18 million according to Transfermarkt, has made 37 appearances for the Serie A club across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing four assists in the process.

TIF Thoughts on Joe Wainman’s comments on a potential move to Leeds for Damsgaard…

Given how Damsgaard had a very impressive Euro 2020 with Denmark in which he managed to earn himself a decent overall rating of 7.28/10, making him their joint-second highest-rated player alongside Kasper Dolberg according to WhoScored, it’s easy to see why Wainman would be delighted to see Damsgaard make the move to Elland Road this summer.

Do you think Leeds should try and sign Damsgaard this summer?

Yes

No

No

In terms of his thoughts concerning the club might not being able to secure his signature this summer, it all depends on how far the Yorkshire club are willing to go and push Sampdoria to take Damsgaard off their hands, although it appears a move for Conor Gallagher is no longer likely.

In our view, if Leeds are indeed interested in signing Damsgaard this summer and believe they have a good chance of getting him, then we see no reason why they can’t test the waters at the very least to see if they can bring him to Elland Road and if he thinks Leeds would be a good next step for him.
