Former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer is not too fussed with his old side not signing a No.10 this summer.

According to Phil Hay of The Athletic, Leeds previously gave serious consideration to signing someone who can play just behind the striker, but that cooled after Rodrigo’s form picked up at the end of last season.

After some difficult moments during his debut Premier League campaign, including a period where he was suffering with a groin injury, the 30-year-old finished off proceedings strongly, scoring four times in Leeds’ final five fixtures.

It now appears that Marcelo Bielsa is comfortable going into the new season with just Rodrigo and Tyler Roberts for that position just off of Patrick Bamford, something Palmer has no qualms about.

“You don’t need to fix something that’s not broken,” the ex-Leeds player exclusively told TIF. “I think their game plan of how they want to play has already proven successful.

“A mid-table finish in the Premier League after just getting promotion is a fantastic, fantastic achievement.

“You’ve got to be careful that you don’t try and change your ethos.”

When you look at how drastically Rodrigo’s form did pick up at the end of the last campaign, then yes, it is easy to understand why Bielsa has pulled the plug on signing a new No.10.
