David Norris admits signing Matheus Pereira would not excite Leeds United fans.

Pereira looks certain to leave West Bromwich Albion following their relegation from the Premier League last season, with new Baggies head coach Valerien Ismael conceding he is expecting the creative midfielder to depart.

A host of top flight clubs are vying for the Brazilian’s signature, with Leeds United among those in the queue – TEAMtalk report he’d cost £15m.

West Ham United, Leicester City, Aston Villa and Bundesliga duo RB Leipzig and Eintracht Frankfurt are also in the running, with West Brom hoping the amount of interested clubs will result in a bidding war.

Despite suffering the dreaded drop, Pereira scored 12 goals and claimed six assists in 34 appearances for the Baggies last season.

While it would be a boost for Leeds to fight off stiff competition for the 25-year-old’s services, former midfielder Norris insists supporters would not be too concerned if Pereira chooses against heading to Elland Road.

Speaking exclusively to TIF, Norris said: “When you’re struggling down there, it’s hard enough to create chances so having that sort of return is decent.

“I think it wouldn’t be massively overwhelming and the price tag probably reflects that.

“Fans wise, they’ll be hopeful more than excited.”
