The Yorkshire club fought off stiff competition to welcome Junior Firpo from Spanish giants Barcelona.

Firpo penned a four-year deal after a £13million fee was agreed between the two sides and the left-back admitted Orta played a key role in persuading him Elland Road was the right place to progress his career.

Orta took over as Leeds’ director of football in 2017 and has been widely praised since.

Signings he has helped to bring in played a key role in the club returning to the Premier League for the first time following a 16-year absence in 2020.

Former Leeds midfielder Norris insists Orta’s influence must not be underestimated when it comes to judging the club’s success in the transfer market.

Leeds' all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Mark Viduka but how many did he score?

Speaking exclusively to TIF, he said: “He deserves massive credit. They must do loads of research, background checks, watch the players and find out all their personal stuff to make sure they’re the right fit for the club.

“Orta is a massive part of that so a lot of credit will go to him when it comes to the players coming in.”
