fans on have been reacting to a recent video to emerge on social media of Rams manager Wayne Rooney confirming Tom Lawrence the new captain at Pride Park.

This comes after the official Derby Twitter account shared a post that contained footage of Rooney revealing this to his players about Lawrence and his new role.

This post quickly grabbed the attention of a lot of Rams supporters, who were not shy in sharing their thoughts on the matter.

So, what did these Derby fans have to say in response to this video of Rooney announcing Lawrence’s captaincy?

“Oh dear.”

@DerbyFanSteve

“Ridiculous”

@andy7481

“Embarrassing decision”

@GuyPearson1

“Joke he should be gone”

@sorton66

“April Fools was months ago lads!”

@South12Stander

“Our is rotten”

@yates230

Looking at the replies to this post from the club’s official Twitter page, it’s clear to see that these Derby fans are not too impressed by the news that Lawrence is the club’s new captain for the upcoming season.

Do you think Tom Lawrence is the right person to captain Derby?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Given how Lawrence pleaded guilty to drink-driving back in October 2019, it’s understandable why these Derby fans think he may not be the best candidate to lead the team moving forward.

Though in our view, taking into account how Lawrence has been at the club since 2017 and has made a total of 146 appearances for the Midlands club, it’s understandable why Rooney may have decided to give him the captain’s armband based on his experience playing for the club.
