The reaction comes as journalist Alan Nixon shared the news on Twitter that the Rams are set to offer 38-year-old centre-back Phil Jagielka a contract at the club after he became a free agent this summer.
Supporters of Derby were quick to give their feelings on the possible signing of Jagielka…
“Had a run of games in the prem last season, could be a solid signing.”
“Don’t mind that at all, experienced head amongst a young bunch”
“Hi Alan. If we can offer a contract to Jagielka, can we offer Curtis Davies a new contract? If we can, any idea if we have?”
“One for the future”
“Given what our embargo restricts us to, this would be a useful signing… anyone who thinks this season is anything less than trying to stay in this division is sadly mistaken”
“39 year old”
The responses suggest that there are mixed feelings towards this one across the Derby fanbase, with some supporters questioning the age of Jagielka, whilst others recognising that Derby are going to need a few experienced heads amongst their ranks next season.
Jagielka became a free agent this summer after being released by Sheffield United following their relegation from the Premier League. The centre-back’s departure saw the 38-year-old leave the Blades for the second time after also leaving the club in 2007 to join Everton.
