Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has featured on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel to discuss Tottenham Hotspur’s ongoing search for a new manager.

The Lilywhites have been without a permanent manager since April when Daniel Levy sacked Jose Mourinho ahead of their Carabao Cup final.

Who would be a better fit for Spurs?

One name which has been heavily linked with the job in recent weeks is the former Inter manager, Antonio Conte.

However, last week it was reported talks between the two parties had broken down with a deal unable to be agreed upon.

Discussing the Italian manager, Romano provided an update on his stance regarding the Tottenham opening following claims that talks between Conte and the club may not be dead in the water.

He said: “At the moment, I am told that there is nothing going on between Tottenham and Antonio Conte’s representatives – at the moment.

“But to be honest with you, last time I was checking also about the situation during the weekend, I’ve been told that Antonio has not changed his mind. So he still wants the same things from Tottenham.

“So it’s up to Tottenham if they want to try again, they have to go with Antonio Conte’s priorities. So as we said many times on here, it’s about the project, it’s about the vision, it’s about the budget, it’s about the investments, it’s about the staff members. So there are many things to discuss.”

TIF Thoughts on Conte to Spurs…

We think Spurs should move on from Conte as a potential candidate for the vacant job. There is no doubting his class as a manager, and you only have to look at the number of trophies he has lifted in his career to see that.

However, does he fit the Spurs mould? It is believed Spurs are operating on an estimated £200m revenue loss as a result of the pandemic and with that in mind, transfer funds may not widely available this summer.

Conte has been known to spend a lot in the summer market and looking at the Spurs squad, it is hard to see where they could generate funds from – unless they sell Harry Kane.

With this in mind, we think a candidate like Erik ten Hag may be a better suit for Daniel Levy’s vacancy having worked on a relative shoestring at Ajax (via Transfermarkt).
