Judging by the comments, many Sunderland fans are overjoyed with the news of a new contract for Taylor.

The 18-year-old’s new contract is the first professional contract of his career after coming through the Sunderland academy.

For Sunderland fans who aren’t aware of young Taylor, he is a versatile youngster, who can play on either flank – though predominantly the left of midfield – and also at left-back.

Taylor played eight games for Sunderland’s U18s this season, scoring four and assisting once before moving up to play for Sunderland’s U23s in Premier League 2 Division 2, where he scored just once in 16 appearances for the Black Cats, as they finished fifth in the league.

A player for the future for the Black Cats, but it is good to see them tying down a player who looks like he has good potential for the future.
