Sol Bamba will be leaving Cardiff City, after it was announced that his contract at The Bluebirds will not be renewed upon its expiry on July 1st.

Cardiff released their released and retained list, with Bamba one of five Cardiff players out of contract with other big names such as Junior Hoilett, Jonny Williams and Joe Bennett also being released.

Bamba, who started his career at Paris Saint-Germain, signed for the Bluebirds in 2016, following one season at Leeds United and the centre-back has become a fan favourite during his time in south Wales.

The 36-year-old Ivorian international has had a difficult year off the field, being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma at the beginning of 2021 and began undergoing chemotherapy. Four months later, Bamba revealed he was now cancer-free and managed to return to play for the Bluebirds in the club’s final game of the season against Rotherham, which left everyone involved with the club ‘delighted’ according to manager Mick McCarthy.

Cardiff fans on social media have fumed over Bamba’s release, believing that the centre-back should’ve had a better send-off…
