Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has revealed some extra details on Scott Brown and his decision to leave Celtic Park.
Brown’s 14-year-stay at Parkhead was brought to an end this season as it was announced back in March that he was set to leave the club for Aberdeen to take on a player-coach role at Pittodrie, leaving the club after what can only be described as a very successful spell.
However, Joseph shed some light on Celtic’s offer to extend his stay at Parkhead, explaining that there was an opportunity for him to prolong his spell at the club and still work on his future as a coach.
Speaking on the Only As Good As Your Last Game podcast, Joseph revealed that Celtic had offered him a similar deal to that of Aberdeen, but that it wasn’t quite at the same level as what the Dons were able to put forward:
“Celtic were constantly in talks with him. He had an offer from Celtic to stay on and develop his coaching badges, but I think it was at a more junior level to what he’s going into at Aberdeen. At Aberdeen, he’s going to be one of the assistant managers as well as a player. Depending on what happens, I’m sure he’ll be wearing the captain’s armband as well at some point.”

Should Celtic have kept Scott Brown?
Yes!
No!
This really does come across as a bit of an insult on the face of it. Given what Brown has given the club over the years, going down as a club legend in the process, they should really have been more accommodating in what Brown wanted in the next stage of his career, and should have been in a position to match what Aberdeen were able to give him.
And given the animosity that has built up between the supporters and the board this past season, for them to make another gaffe like this, by letting Brown go when it was possible for him to stick around, might not be doing much to help build the bridges between the two sides.
