Serie A expert Conor Clancy believes Celtic target Aaron Hickey would fit into Ange Postecoglou’s high-pressing style in Scotland, were he to be targeted by the new manager.

The Australian’s arrival at Celtic Park was confirmed on Thursday morning following a spell with the Yokahama Marinos in Japan.

Postecoglou will replace Neil Lennon, who left the club midway through a poor season at the Glasgow giants, with the club finishing way behind eventual unbeaten champions Rangers.

It remains to be seen if Postecoglou would be willing to target Hickey, who was reportedly promised to previous managerial target Eddie Howe amid talks with the ex-Bournemouth boss.

Hickey left Scotland to join Bologna from Hearts in 2020 and has spent just the one season in Serie A, making a total of 12 appearances for the club.

The 18-year-old could be set for a return to his native country, then, with Hickey having played 34 times for Hearts prior to his switch to Italy.

Postecoglou is known for a high-pressing, intense style of play, and Clancy thinks that Hickey would fit right into that kind of tactical set-up.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, Clancy, who is the editor-in-chief of Forza Italian Football, said: “I think so. He’s quite lively, he’s quite energetic, so I don’t think he’d have any issues settling into a fast-tempo game like that.”
