Journalist and broadcaster Hugh Keevins has talked about how Celtic have to seal a move for Ange Postecoglou quickly or they’ll be left as a ‘laughing stock’ in Scottish football.

The Hoops’ move for Eddie Howe fell through last week, with the club stating that reasons beyond their control were the reason for the collapse in talks. They are now thought to be in discussions with Yokohama F Marinos boss Ange Postecoglou over succeeding Neil Lennon.

Keevins spoke about their chase for the Australian when he appeared on the latest episode of Clyde Superscoreboard, claiming that time is of the essence for the Hoops.

He stated: “I don’t know how you do your contractual negotiations with a Japanese club without going there. When I went to the World Cup, I had to go down to London and jump on a plane, spend 11 hours on a plane to get to a plane to Japan.

“So somebody may have to do that and bring him back because Celtic cannot afford for this to collapse, otherwise they’d truly be a laughing stock. And they have to get their business done very, very quickly. He has to be here by the weekend.”

TIF Thoughts on the Postecoglou deal being done quickly…

Celtic’s move for Howe falling through doesn’t reflect well on them, especially when the Englishman had actually met Dermot Desmond many weeks ago. This came some months after they were close to signing Ben Davies on a pre-contract basis but Liverpool trumped them in the chase and signed the defender permanently themselves.

So another failure to seal a signing wouldn’t go down well with Celtic fans. So the club should look to seal the deal for Postecoglou as soon as possible.
