Many Celtic fans have been discussing a transfer rumour that emerged on social media recently.
Swedish outlet Aftonbladet has recently reported about Celtic, stating that the Hoops are interested in signing Elfsborg centre-back Joseph Okumu. The report claims that as many as five clubs are interested in him and while the Hoops are interested, their Old Firm rivals are also among the teams looking at the defender.
The report states that the biggest bid has come from French club Lorient but Reims would also be looking to pay a similar amount for him. Rangers, meanwhile, are reported to be the most attractive option for Okumu.
Do you want Celtic to sign players before they appoint Postecoglou?
Yes
No
This news was relayed on Twitter by Everything Celtic. Many Hoops fans made their views clear about this update.
What did Celtic fans make of this news on Okumu?
“How can we be interested in players when we have no manager, director of football or head scout? Who is making these decisions?“
“How are fans still going on about a manager making signings?? The manager/head coach will not be incharge of signings. Do fans really think all the scouting thays been going on just gets binned everytime there is a change of manager?“
“Looks like he’s a CDM going by the video of him that’s going around…. Either way, looks a strong physical player who can break up play and pass… Exactly what we need We better beat that mob to him, they’re after him to”
“This is why Celtic are finding it hard to find a manager, and why we had Lennon and now someone from the other side of the world, they are delighted to be called the Celtic manager and are only manager in name they have no say whatsoever in the running of anything.“
These Celtic fans clearly want the club to appoint a manager before making signings and they want the signings to be made on the basis of the manager’s needs.
The club seem to have agreed a compensation fee with Yokohama F Marinos for Ange Postecoglou, which suggests progress is being made in this regard.
So the club have to seal the Australian’s signature quickly and then decide their transfer targets on the basis of what Postecoglou needs. If Okumu doesn’t suit what Postecoglou needs, the signing may well be pointless.
