Many Celtic supporters have been discussing a news update about Shaun Maloney that emerged on social media.

The Daily Record has reported about Maloney, saying that the Hoops are eyeing a move for him as part of their summer rebuild. The report states that Maloney has held talks with Peter Lawwell regarding a potential return to once he completes his assignment with the Belgium national team at Euro 2020

It also claims that is unlikely to land the role of a sporting director at Celtic and Maloney could play a role in this shake-up. While Maloney is working under Roberto Martinez, who is a candidate for the Barcelona job and he may want his assistant at the Nou Camp, Celtic want to use the ’emotional pull’ of bringing him back to Glasgow.

Maloney was a product of the Celtic youth academy as a player and he stayed at the club for multiple years. Not just that, he also worked as a coach in the club’s youth departments.

So he is someone who understands the club well. With the club losing Peter Lawwell, Nick Hammond and Scott Brown, they’d need someone who helps the next manager with what the club is all about. Maloney can be that person.
