Former Celtic man Davie Provan has talked about the fact that Jack Hendry could be well suited to Ange Postecoglou’s tactical approach.
It has been reported that Belgian club Oostende are set to sign Hendry for a fee of only £1.5 million and it is likely that they’ll sell him on this summer itself. The Belgian club are aware of interest from other sides already.
Provan talked about Hendry when he appeared on the latest episode of the Go Radio Football Show podcast. He branded Celtic’s decision to sell him as ‘crazy’ and he feels that if Ange Postecoglou does join, he could have benefitted from the presence of a defender like Hendry.
Could Hendry have helped Postecoglou's system?
Yes
No
The pundit stated: “Given that Postecoglou, by all accounts, is a manager who wants his defenders to bring the ball out from the back. Jack Hendry would’ve been right up his street. And he’s going to go – crazy.”
TIF Thoughts on Hendry…
Postecoglou’s tactical approach at Yokohama F Marinos relies on playing out from the back and he has used ball-playing defender at the back. He wants his defenders to have more control on the ball while building up play.
One of Hendry’s strengths as a player is his ability to play short passes and in the 2020/21 campaign, he had a pretty decent passing success rate of 85 percent.
It suggests that maybe, Hendry can contribute to a system which relies on possession retention and he may have been useful for Postecoglou.
