Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has recently spoken about Fergal Harkin and his previous links with a move to Celtic.
Harkin was previously said to be in talks with a move to Celtic, but the move fell through – even though Ange Postecoglou was recommended to the club by Harkin himself. Shaun Maloney has now been linked with a Celtic return.
Joseph appeared on the latest episode of the Only As Good As Your Last Game podcast and spoke about Harkin’s situation. The journalist stated that Harkin was never officially offered a job by Celtic and talks that took place weren’t formal.
Should Celtic regret missing out on Harkin?
The Sky Sports journalist went on to state that Dominic McKay still wants to modernise Celtic, even though Harkin isn’t arriving.
He said: “It didn’t work out with Fergal Harkin, he chose to stay at Man City. Sources close to Celtic say that he wasn’t officially offered the job; talks took place – if he was offered the job, it might have been informally, but he was certainly talking to Celtic for quite some time and that hasn’t materialised.
“I’d imagine Celtic still want to modernise. Dom McKay is very much someone who is known to be looking at modernising things like he’s done with the SRU.”
TIF Thoughts on Harkin’s failed move…
Harkin and new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou have actually worked together under the City Group umbrella, so having them work at Celtic could have led to a cohesive structure at the club.
It shows that he’s someone with a footballing background and he’d have the knowledge of the game and players in England. So because of his links with Postecoglou and background, missing out on Harkin may turn to be a blow to Celtic.
