Former Newcastle man Steve Howey reckons there’s every chance someone takes a punt on Burnley striker Chris Wood this summer.

Wood is part of an illustrious club along with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Harry Kane and Mo Salah that have all reached double figures in each of the last four Premier League seasons.

Wood’s achievement is slightly more impressive, though, given that Burnley generally struggled for goals and were in a relegation battle last term.

According to the Daily Mail, the former Leeds man, who racked up 12 for the Clarets last season, is a target for Everton, Aston Villa and West Ham, with the latter in desperate need of another frontman.

Wood scored eight goals in as many matches from March to May, including a ruthless hat-trick in Burnley’s crucial victory over Wolves.

Having proved himself since making the step up into the Premier League, Howey exclusively told This is Futbol that now might be the time for the Kiwi’s striker to move on once again:

“You give him chances and he will score. Is he prolific, no? But he’s a very good striker.

“But because he’s big, strong and awkward, defenders don’t like playing against him. I feel as though some team could definitely take a punt on him.”
