Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has featured on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel to discuss all things Tottenham Hotspur.

One of the major talking points was Tottenham’s search for a new permanent manager as they continue to look for Jose Mourinho’s replacement.

A name that has hit the headlines in recent weeks regarding the Tottenham vacancy is their former manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

It was reported Spurs had opened talks with the Argentine over a potential return to north London with the 49-year-old said to be open to a possible return.

Discussing the matter, Romano provided an update on Pochettino’s future in Paris, which may come as bad news to some Spurs fans.

He said: “According to Paris Saint-Germain sources, yes, they have said many times in private, so they are always saying that Pochettino is not going anywhere.

“The same in public, because Leonardo, also another time, said Pochettino is not leaving, we are working with him in the transfer market.

“But we have also facts right now, because during the weekend with [Georginio] Wijnaldum, who made his choice between [the] Barcelona bid and Paris Saint-Germain bid – Pochettino was calling Wijnaldum, several times.

“He was telling him, ‘I wanted you five years ago when I was at Tottenham, join me at Paris Saint-Germain, we have this big opportunity to stay together.'”

TIF Thoughts on Pochettino to Spurs…

Following the Super League saga, many Spurs fans have turned against their board and it seems the relationship between the fans and the board is at an all-time low.

However, we think appointing Pochettino could have helped to improve that relationship.

Under Pochettino, Spurs were achieving consistent top-four finishes and even reached the Champions League final. Since his sacking, Spurs finished sixth in the 2019/20 season and then seventh in the 2020/21 season.

With a rebuild on the cards, there is no guarantee Pochettino could have offered a quick fix, however, he could well have got the fans back onside.
