Football journalist Jonathan Liew has featured on the latest edition of The Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast and discussed Tottenham Hotspur’s search for a new manager.

Spurs have been linked with a number of managers lately to fill the vacant role left by the sacking of Jose Mourinho back in April.

Do you think Spurs still have a chance of hiring Pochettino?

Last week saw some stunning reports emerge surrounding a potential return to north London for former Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine manager is currently managing Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain and was only appointed back in January of this year.

Speaking about a possible return for the 49-year-old, Liew discussed the lack of control Pochettino currently has at PSG in comparison to what he had at Spurs.

He said: “Out of all this has come this incredible Pochettino rumour, and I don’t personally know how happy he is in Paris.

“But I mean, what certainly is true is that he’s enjoyed a lot less control over the whole organisation than he enjoyed at Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts on a Pochettino return…

Earlier this week, it was reported the French club had taken up their clause to extend Pochettino’s contract by an extra year, which would take his contractual stay in Paris up to 2023.

However, we question whether this is a legitimate message for Tottenham to consider Pochettino the PSG manager for the foreseeable future, or whether PSG have done it to get everything possible out of a potential compensation package for Pochettino.

We think Spurs fans on the whole would love to see Pochettino return given the consistent Champions League football played under the Argentine. It will be interesting to see if this saga progresses or if Spurs look elsewhere.
