Tottenham Hotspur correspondent for Football.london, Alasdair Gold, has been speaking on his latest YouTube video to discuss the club’s ongoing search for a new manager.

One name which has been linked with the vacant Spurs job since Jose Mourinho was sacked is the current Ajax manager, Erik ten Hag.

Would Ten Hag be your first choice now?

Yes

Yes

No

No

However, since being linked with the Spurs job, Ajax have extended the 51-year-old’s contract to take his expected stay in Amsterdam through until 2023.

Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano told TalkSport Spurs have been in contact with Ten Hag over their vacant role, despite the Dutchman signing the extended deal with the Eredivisie side.

However, discussing the matter, Gold had the following to say.

What I know about Ten Hag was that he was interested in Tottenham and Tottenham certainly liked what he’s done with Ajax. He fits the profile to a glove.

“But what I would say is, from what I understand is very much Spurs spoke to him early on in the process. And then when they started to chase [Mauricio] Pochettino and then [Antonio] Conte, they very much left that interest behind.

“And obviously, some people say it was an option taken up by the club to extend his contract by a year. Some say the club just offered him a new deal which he accepted.

“What I would say is, either way, it’s just one more year on top of his contract. Would Tottenham go back for him now? It remains to be seen – ultimately it’d be [Fabio] Paratici’s choice.”

TIF Thoughts on Ten Hag to Spurs…

We think Ten Hag would have made for a great fit at Spurs. The Dutchman has operated on a low budget during his time in Amsterdam and succeeded on the field.

It has also been reported by Gold that Ten Hag was interested in leaving the Dutch side this summer, which may still give Spurs some hope.

However, the biggest question for us remains whether Ajax would be willing to allow Ten Hag to leave given we are now into the summer transfer window and less than two months away from the start of the new season.
