Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been speaking on his latest YouTube video about all things related to the north London club.

The obvious talking point was the club’s ongoing search for a permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho, however, Gold also discussed a potential director of football appointment, too.

Would a director of football benefit Tottenham?

Antonio Conte has been heavily linked with becoming the next Tottenham manager, and Gold revealed in the video he believes a deal is close to completion.

Gold stated he had heard the arrival of Conte could well be joined by the appointment of a director of football in former Juventus director of football, Fabio Paratici.

He said: “It’s something that I’ve been told as well that if Conte comes in – which as I said, looks like it’s going to happen now – Fabio Paratici, his former Juventus director of football, will likely join him.

“He’s an interesting one. He’s a very interesting one. I’ve heard very good things about him. I’ve heard that he’s a very astute guy, very clever guy.”

TIF Thoughts on Paratici to Spurs…

The appointment of Jose Mourinho may have brought some optimism to Tottenham given his track record of winning trophies.

However, we question whether everything was put in place for him to succeed as the club were operating without a director of football. You only have to look at some of Tottenham’s recent transfer dealings to see where some of the problems lie.

Some of their higher-priced signings have failed to live up to expectations and provide any real return for the investment. Giovani Lo Celso is a great example of this. He cost Spurs a total of £43.2m and has returned just 11 goal involvements across all competitions in his 65 appearances (via Transfermarkt).

With a summer of potential financial struggle ahead, the appointment of Paratici could prove a great move.
