Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been speaking on a Facebook Live video for Football.london to discuss all things related to the Lilywhites.

One of the topics of discussion was the upcoming summer transfer window and a worrying statement Gold had remembered from the Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

Should Spurs cash in on Harry Kane this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The future of Harry Kane is still being speculated, with the striker said to want out of Spurs this summer as Manchester City and Manchester United are believed to be interested.

With the transfer window approaching, it is uncertain what spending power Spurs will have given the expected financial struggles across the footballing world.

Discussing the reasons behind talks with Antonio Conte falling through over the managerial role, Gold had the following to say on Tottenham’s financial state.

He said: “A lot of people within the club have made it very clear that it was just the demands made of them were just unrealistic at a time when the club needs to be sustainable, you know, the financial accounts are going to come out then, quite soon.

“And there was talk, wasn’t there; I think Daniel Levy said in one of his statements that they were expecting, for the financial year, £200m in lost revenue.”

TIF Thoughts on Tottenham’s summer spending…

If this is true and Spurs are struggling for cash this summer, then it is hard to see where they will find the money from this summer to rebuild their squad after an underwhelming campaign.

We can’t see many areas in Tottenham’s squad which would allow them to offload players and receive a considerable sum of money in return (via Transfermarkt).

The only realistic option we can see for Spurs to generate money this summer is by offloading Harry Kane, but then comes the enormous and expensive task of replacing him.
