Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has been discussing Tottenham Hotspur and their potential interest in Gareth Bale.

The Welshman certainly had something of a weird season during his loan spell from Real Madrid, despite being seen as a bit-part player for most of the early stages of the campaign whilst there was some debate about his fitness, he still managed to pull out 16 goals and 3 assists in all competitions for Spurs.

Which player scored Spurs' first goal of the Premier League campaign?

It’s no surprise then to see that there are reports suggesting that Daniel Levy would like to see him return to Tottenham once again after his initial loan spell.

Speaking on 4-4-Two, Romano revealed that Tottenham are indeed interested in him, but that they will be forced to play the waiting game before they decide whether or not they will be making a serious bid for him:

“With Gareth Bale, they [Real Madrid] have a meeting scheduled with his agent immediately after the Euros because they want to decide together with Bale what they are to do. Tottenham have always an interest in signing him after they had him on loan. But we have to see who will be the new manager of Tottenham. When they will have the manager, then they will decide.”

TIF Thoughts on Fabrizio Romano’s comments about Gareth Bale…

Do you want Bale to return to Spurs for the 2021/22 season?

Yes

No

No

This is a sensible approach for Tottenham to be taking, especially in the context of not having a manager in place just yet.

We saw the trouble that the relationship between him and Jose Mourinho caused last season, so they won’t want to make the same mistake twice in giving a manager a player that he’s not entirely comfortable with.

But it is good to see that he is still on their radar. His performances last year, as well as those in the Euros show that he does still have something about him even at the age of 31 (32 by the time next season starts), and can offer something to Spurs if the new manager does decide that he wants him.
