Journalist Alasdair Gold has recently talked about Spurs’ links with a move for Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui.

Sevilla president Jose Castro recently claimed that the Spaniard had informed him of a ‘dizzying’ offer from Tottenham but Lopetegui is motivated to continue at his current club.

During his appearance on a live video on Tottenham’s Football.london page, Gold talked about Lopetegui’s move of rejecting Spurs. The journalist stated that while contact was made by Fabio Paratici, the talks never reached any advanced stage and no offers were made for the ex-Real Madrid manager.

The journalist said: “I saw all this talk about [what] the Sevilla president was saying about ‘a dizzying offer that he’s turned down to stay with us’ and all that, which sounds fantastic, and I think most presidents and chairmen will say exactly the same thing. From what I understand, I don’t think it quite got to that stage.

“I think Paratici certainly had talks with him, had a chat. Essentially said, what do you think?

“From what I’m told, I don’t think it actually got to that stage of any formal offer being made.”

TIF Thoughts on Lopetegui to Spurs…

In the 2019/20 campaign, Lopetegui won the Europa League with Sevilla, defeating Manchester United and Inter in the process.

Starting with a current Tottenham star. How many PL goals has Harry Kane scored for Spurs?

In the 2020/21 campaign, Lopetegui had helped Sevilla finish fourth in La Liga as they finished only two points behind Barcelona in the league.

It shows his quality as a manager and how well he can do with a side that didn’t always have a record of finishing inside the top four before Lopetegui came in. So it is easy to see why Spurs went for him but now that the move hasn’t materialised, they should move on.
