Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Tottenham’s search for a new centre-back, during his interview with the Chris Cowlin, stating that the north London club “are really well-positioned” in their pursuit of Lyon defender Joachim Andersen

Having joined Fulham on loan for the 2020/21 season, Andersen was one of the stars of Scott Parker’s side, who really impressed with his solid performances throughout the campaign, averaging a 6.79/10 match rating according to WhoScored.com, despite the Whites failing to retain their Premier League status.

Romano’s comments suggested that a deal could be struck with the French club over the coming weeks, as he had this to say on the potential deal:

“I would keep an eye on the situation of centre-backs, to be honest, because they want a new centre-back and they will keep an eye on Joachim Andersen.

“I was tweeting some days ago that he wants to stay in the Premier League, he has a lot of interest from European clubs, also from Italy – he played in Italy in Sampdoria and was so good – also from Premier League clubs.

“So, a lot of clubs are interested, but at the moment, I’m told that Tottenham are really well-positioned.”

TIF Thoughts…

If Tottenham were able to secure the services of Andersen, it would arguably be an excellent piece of business.

Since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino, Spurs have conceded more goals in each of their last two campaigns than they did in all but one of the Argentine’s full seasons at the helm.

If Tottenham have serious ambitions about returning to play Champions League football, then they may need to shore their defence up in the coming windows, as Toby Alderweireld begins to enter the latter stages of his top-level playing career and the trend suggests they are lacking in that department.

Andersen, who is seven years younger than Alderweireld, could therefore be a fantastic option who could serve Tottenham for years to come.
