Last summer, Jose Mourinho wanted to bring Milan Skriniar to Tottenham Hotspur but a deal could not be agreed.
However, there could be more optimism this summer as everyone at the Serie A champions will be up for sale, according to Spurs legend Graham Roberts.
It is very clear that Tottenham require a commanding leader at the heart of their defence and someone they are reportedly looking to bring to the Premier League is Skriniar, with Inter Milan in financial trouble and potentially willing to accept a lower offer.
Would Skriniar improve Spurs?
£54m-rated Skriniar was a colossus at the back for Inter Milan last term and was exactly what Spurs were missing. Additionally, if they can get someone like the Slovakia international alongside Joe Rodon, the Welshman could develop into a top-quality player.
If Spurs want to avoid another disappointing season then it’s obvious where they must improve and they could do far worse than to look towards the Italian champions, which is according to Roberts, who exclusively told This is Futbol:
“Well, I think everybody will be up for sale at Inter and I don’t get how they spent all that money, win the league, but they’re not in problems with Financial Fair Play.”
Often last season, Spurs were having to deploy Eric Dier as a centre back with many not seeing that as his best position, considering one of his best campaigns with Spurs was when he regularly played as a holding midfielder under Mauricio Pochettino.
For several years, Tottenham had a solid back four with Kyle Walker, Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose but one by one they all left the club, with Alderweireld the only one still in north London.
