Former Everton striker Marcus Bent believes that Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial would add improve Tottenham’s squad.

The pair have been in Manchester United’s first-team for several seasons but are reportedly being used as bait for the Red Devils to try and bring Harry Kane to Old Trafford this summer.

Martial, who missed the final few months of the campaign with a knee problem, scored just seven goals in 36 appearances in all competitions in by far his worst goalscoring season with United, whilst Lingard topped that figure in just four months whilst on loan at West Ham.

According to Transfermarkt, the attacking duo are worth less than £60m, meaning United would be required to pay Tottenham a substantial fee to prise the England captain away from north London.

But whilst losing Kane would be an enormous blow to managerless Spurs, Bent exclusively told This is Futbol that two players in exchange would soften the blow:

“Lingard and Martial are big players, they’re good players. They’d add to the squad, but there would have to be some sort of fee on top of that.

“But Jesse Lingard, I like him, I have always liked him, bit flamboyant. He’s confident, and doing how he did at West Ham, it’s that stepping stone to get him back. It must have been hard for him, but he was probably grateful.

“And to be linked with a move to Tottenham is massive for him.”
