Former Tottenham Hotspur star Paul Stewart claims that Harry Winks is not really good enough to play for the club next season.

Winks endured a difficult season in north London, falling out of favour under Jose Mourinho and losing his place in the England squad as a result.

The £50,000-a-week central midfielder only made nine starts in the Premier League, with two of those coming under caretaker boss Ryan Mason after Mourinho’s sacking in mid-April.

Should Spurs sell Winks this summer?

When Winks did play, he struggled to control the centre of the pitch, and Stewart does not think that he will come into the plans of the next manager.

Reports suggest Paulo Fonseca, the former Roma boss, is now the leading candidate to take over from Mourinho, with the Portuguese having replaced Fonseca at the Serie A club.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, Stewart was asked about Winks’ future at the club and replied: “For me, I don’t think Harry Winks is one of the top players at Spurs. I think he’s come in, he’s neat and tidy, don’t get me wrong, but I think Spurs need a little bit more than neat and tidy if they want to push on.

“It’s been such a disappointing season and I think we’ll need to look at a lot of changes. I’m not confident Winks will be part of the plan.”

Winks has made a total of 173 appearances for Spurs.
