Newcastle United fans on Twitter have been responding to the latest transfer claim surrounding Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer.

This comes after Newcastle-focused Twitter page @NUFC360 shared a post quote-tweeting Norwich City journalist Paddy Davitt, who claimed that the Canaries are “well down the track” to sign Ajer this summer.

Newcastle's all-time top Premier League goalscorer is Alan Shearer but how many goals did he score for the club?

In their quoted tweet, the Newcastle page reiterated Davitt’s claim saying that Ajer, who has been linked with a move to St. James’ Park in recent weeks, could now end up at Norwich instead.

This post then gathered a lot of replies from a number of Toon supporters who were not shy in sharing their thoughts on this latest claim.

So, what did these Newcastle fans have to say in response to this latest update about Ajer?

Joke of a club we are #NUFC

@ScottSquance

“We can’t compete with Norwich City in the transfer market. This club is sinking by the day”

@KyleMF1

“We can’t compete with big teams like Norwich”

@shearersboots

“Losing out to Norwich… a new low. Even if they are faves to go down, they still have ambition”

@AndyC7A

“Good on Norwich….well run club with long-term plan. Newcastle have no plan”

@Stui_86

“Can’t compete with Norwich City”

@LiamNUFC98

Looking at the replies to this post, it seems that these Newcastle fans would not feel particularly positive towards their club if they manage to lose Ajer to Norwich this summer.

Would you be disappointed if Ajer joined Norwich this summer?

Yes

No

No

In our view, it probably should be Newcastle’s main priority to bolster their defence ahead of the new season considering that they managed to concede 62 goals throughout their 38 Premier League games last season – the fifth-worst record in the division.

So perhaps signing Ajer instead of seeing him potentially go to Norwich, who were promoted to the Premier League at the end of the season, would be the best move for Steve Bruce’s side.
