Liam Kennedy has been speaking on a recent edition of #NUFC Matters about Newcastle United’s pursuit of Wigan Athletic’s Kyle Joseph.
The Toon were linked with a move for the 19-year-old earlier this year, with the same report claiming that Newcastle were prepared to offer more money to sign him than Celtic.
Joseph made 18 appearances in the 2020/21 season and scored five goals; however, he is highly rated, and it seems as if Newcastle will be signing him.
Kennedy said: (57:27) “I think that’s one that will go through this summer. Speaking to people who have seen him play; He works really hard, a workhorse up front, definitely got ability and could be one that really sort of improves [in] a different environment at Newcastle.”
Do you think Newcastle will sign Joseph?
No, doesn't look like it
Yes, it could still happen
TIF Thoughts on Joseph…
So, it could be quite the step up, but with Andy Carroll set to depart and Dwight Gayle potentially being sold (Sunday Mirror via HITC), the Toon need other forward options to back up Joelinton and Callum Wilson.
Therefore, signing a young, hungry 19-year-old could turn out to be a very good signing by Newcastle.
However, Swansea City are in advanced talks, so the Toon might miss out unless they act quickly.
