Mark Goldbridge has revealed he expects Manchester United to sign Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane after the European Championships conclude in July.

Reports in recent days have linked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side with a move for the four-time UEFA Champions League winner, as The Red Devils look to, supposedly, bolster their backline ahead of next season.

Speaking on the latest video of The United Stand YouTube channel, Goldbridge made these claims about United’s pursuit of Varane:

“So Varane again, Man United linked to Varane, talk of advanced talks with Varane. I mean, look, to be honest, I don’t think we’re signing anybody before the Euros – let alone buying Varane and [Jadon] Sancho.

“Varane is going to be a deal that I think happens after the Euros. It doesn’t mean that we can’t progress the deal with agents and everything through the Euros, because there’s lots and lots of negotiations that needs to go on with Madrid and his agent.”

TIF Thoughts on Varane moving to Manchester United…

This could be a massive transfer for United if they were able to get this over the line, valued at £63m by Transfermarkt, with Varane’s footballing CV speaking for itself – containing a World Cup, four European Cups, and three La Liga titles just to name a few highlights.

Arguably, his most impressive stat is his injury record, or lack of it. Over the previous two seasons, Varane has played 84 games for Real Madrid. That could make him a worthwhile signing for United as they will be hopeful of finally ending their four-year drought for a trophy next season.
