Journalist Ian McGarry has recently revealed some information about Donny van de Beek’s potential involvement in Manchester United’s deal for Jadon Sancho.
Van de Beek joined Man United from Ajax in the summer of 2020 for a fee of £35 million and he signed a five-year deal. The Dutchman failed to break into the first-team though, as he made only four starts in the Premier League and started once in the Europa League.
McGarry was hosting the latest episode of The Transfer Window podcast and Van de Beek’s situation was a topic of discussion on the show. The journalist revealed that Van de Beek has been discussed as part of United’s potential deal for Jadon Sancho.
Would you like Van de Beek to be included in the Sancho deal?
Yes
No
McGarry talked about Van de Beek and stated (1:16): “It is our information that Van de Beek has been mentioned as part of the potential deal to take Jadon Sancho to United, not something which we understand Van de Beek is aware of but something which Borussia Dortmund are considering with regards to the trade and sale of their attacking midfielder, who is obviously well coveted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United as a club.”
TIF Thoughts on Van de Beek…
Van de Beek certainly wasn’t heavily involved in the Man United first-team last season and that may be disappointing for a player who costed £35 million.
Having said that, the Dutchman hadn’t played any league football after March 2020. He came to a club where Bruno Fernandes has been starring regularly, making it tough for anyone to break into the attacking midfield spot.
Because of the context of the situation, United should look to keep Van de Beek, help him get acclimatised to the club during pre-season, so that he can fire next season.
