La Liga expert Euan McTear believes that Pau Torres is a completely different player to Eric Bailly amid links with Manchester United.

United have been heavily linked with a swoop for a centre-back this summer.

Torres appears to have emerged as an option, with reports in Spain claiming that he is near the top of the list for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he looks to reshape his backline.

The 24-year-old has been with Villarreal since 2018, and has made 87 appearances in total for the club.

He has a lengthy contract until 2024 and is valued at £45m by Transfermarkt, and McTear believes he is a completely different kind of centre-back to Bailly, another defender who was signed from Villarreal by United.

Indeed, he believes that the Spaniard is more of a ball-playing centre-back as opposed to the kind of player who puts his body on the line continuously for the team.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, McTear said: “I think he’s a totally different player. Bailly was a great last-ditch centre-back, get your head on the ball, clear the ball, make tackles kind of guy.

“He was at Villarreal at a time when maybe they weren’t as good as they are right now. I think they’re really different types of players, Torres is much more of a pass the ball, possession sort of team, rather than the rugged old, get in the way, type of centre-back. They’re very different players.”
