Dean Windass has told This is Futbol that Dan James still has a future at Manchester United, after Gary Neville suggested last month that he could be used in a swap deal with Tottenham’s Harry Kane.

James, who’s currently starring for Wales at the European Championships, had been heavily used by Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer since his switch from Swansea in 2019, but found his opportunities generally limited last season following Mason Greenwood’s rapid rise.

Prior to Greenwood’s breakthrough and the arrival of Edinson Cavani, James had been a starter for the Red Devils, but made just 11 Premier League starts in 2020-2021, scoring three times and assisting once.

Do you think this will help Man U get Kane?

Yes, this could help

No, he won't hand in a transfer request, so it doesn't matter

But having shown glimpses of his potential during his time at Old Trafford, whilst also proving himself on the international stage, Windass said that he would be shocked to see United sell the 24-year-old.

Asked whether he expects James to remain with the club this summer, he exclusively told This is Futbol:

“Yeah, I do. We talk about Martial leaving and players like that.

“Dan can play left and right, he can put Rashford down the middle, so I can’t see why Man United would want to let a young kid like that go.”

With United hopeful of signing players like Harry Kane Jadon Sancho this window, Solsjkaer is clearly planning for his  side to be genuine title challengers.

But with Anthony Martial out of sorts last season and possibly on the move, keeping James around could prove a smart decision by United.
