In an exclusive interview with This Is Futbol, former Manchester City defender Steve Howey has hinted at Bernardo Silva joining Barcelona this summer, suggesting that the Spanish giants are still a huge pull.

Barcelona are not currently in the best state, plagued by financial problems and finishing third in La Liga last season.

Nevertheless, they have still been able to acquire Silva’s ex-City team-mate Sergio Aguero, a year after they initially tried to bring the former to the Nou Camp.

Should Manchester City sell Sterling?

According to The Athletic, Silva was close to joining Barcelona last summer and Howey believes that they are still an attractive destination.

“They’re not exactly floating in money,” the former City player told TIF when asked if Silva has had his head turned by Barcelona.

“They are having financial troubles, but to play for those two clubs [Barcelona and Real Madrid] in those grounds and the fans and all that, I think it’s a huge pull.”

You would have to think Silva, who is valued at £63m by Transfermarkt, would not come cheap this transfer window.

Can Barcelona afford to pay the kind of money City will probably be looking for? It is hard to tell, but the Portugal international certainly does look interested in a move to Spain.
