Liverpool Echo journalist Paul Gorst has revealed Liverpool’s priorities for the summer transfer window lay in getting their current stars tied down to new long-term deals at Anfield.

Gorst has revealed that Liverpool’s Brazilian duo of Alisson and Fabinho will be approached about the possibility of extending their contracts behind their current expiration dates which, as it stands, is 2023 for both players.

A selection of other Reds players will all then be approached as Liverpool look to tie down the core group that have been so integral to their recent Champions League and Premier League success.

Speaking to The Anfield Wrap’s YouTube channel, Gorst had this update to give:

“It’s an interesting one, actually, because what you’re hearing at the moment is that contracts are the big priority for Liverpool. So when they return to pre-season, it’s going to be Fabinho and Allison – they’re the two at the top of the list, if you like – and then Virgil van Dijk, Mohammed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

“It does seem to be a concerted effort to keep this team together for longer than it already has been. So that, from what we’re understanding, is the priority.”

TIF Thoughts on Liverpool’s summer priorities…

If Liverpool are able to tie down all of the aforementioned stars to new deals it could be a fantastic summer’s worth of business.

With reports over the previous year linking Mohamed Salah with a move away from Anfield, if Liverpool were able to tie down the star who currently has a value of £90million (according to Transfermarkt), it could be argued that is as good as a new signing given his fantastic record for the club since he joined in 2017.

Additionally, if Klopp is able to hand out contract extensions to Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson, who are 22 and 27 years of age respectively, Liverpool could have their full-back positions sorted for the considerable future.

With all things considered, it is no wonder Gorst has revealed that these contract extensions are the “priority” for Liverpool this summer.
