The Liverpool Echo’s chief Liverpool writer Ian Doyle has been speaking on a recent edition of the Blood Red podcast about the Reds’ reported interest in signing Kingsley Coman.

First up in this Mo Salah quiz, what is his current squad number for Liverpool?

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via beIN Sports), Liverpool have made an opening bid for the Frenchman, amid claims that the 25-year-old reportedly wants more money from Bayern Munich while contract talks with the Bundesliga side have reportedly collapsed.

Coman has a ridiculous personal trophy record and also has a strong record at Bayern in terms of goals and assists; however, Doyle isn’t convinced the Reds will sign him.

He said: “As far as we’re aware, he’s obviously a player that Liverpool are aware of, but it seems more the rumours and speculation is coming whether it’s from his representatives his end, Bayern Munich trying to drum up some interest in terms of trying to get a fee for him if he decides that he wants to leave.

“I think, as I say, Liverpool, whether or not they bring in a forward depends on whether or not they sell some forwards, and that’s not a sell-to-buy initiative. It’s purely on based on numbers.”

TIF Thoughts on Coman to Liverpool…

At 25, Coman is approaching what should be the peak of his career, and a move to Anfield could be exactly what he and the Reds need.

The Frenchman can play on either wing, though naturally plays on the left. This is, of course, Sadio Mane’s spot, but he is 29 now and didn’t have his greatest season in the 2020/21 campaign.

So, could signing Coman give Mane that boost to improve for the 2021/22 campaign? Or if the Reds do sign him, could Coman be Mane’s replacement as Jurgen Klopp perhaps looks to evolve his side?

All of this remains to be seen, but Doyle seems unconvinced Liverpool are that interested in Coman, which, if true, we think would be a mistake as he could improve Klopp’s squad given his prior achievements.
