Former Liverpool star Paul Stewart believes Ruben Neves could join the club this summer.

Neves is said to be available this summer, with Wolves demanding a fee of £35m to let him go, per The Athletic.

He has enjoyed a fantastic spell at Molineux, making a total of 176 appearances for the club, scoring 20 goals and laying on 10 assists.

Liverpool are likely to be on the lookout for a new central midfielder this summer, particularly after Georginio Wijnaldum decided to leave and join PSG on a free transfer.

Liverpool have been linked with a deal to sign Neves in previous transfer windows and Stewart thinks they could sanction a new bid this summer.

Donny Van de Beek had been suggested as an option by one pundit but Stewart, who played for the club between 1992 and 1996, believes Neves is a far more realistic prospect given the relationship between the Reds and Manchester United.

Speaking exclusively to This Is Futbol, he said: “I probably think I’d lean more to them getting him than Van de Beek because of the rivalry between Manchester United and Liverpool.

“They would rue the day if they sold him and he did well but Neves, quality player, proved it over the last three or four years at Wolves, so yeah, I see that happening.”
