Liverpool Echo journalist Josh Williams has claimed that Michael Edwards could look at Germany and Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus this summer.

Following the departure of long-time servant Georginio Wijnaldum, Jurgen Klopp is expected to try to seek a replacement for the Dutch midfielder, who played 51 times in all competitions for Liverpool last season.

Williams has claimed Neuhaus, who is valued at £31.5million by Transfermarkt, could be a welcomed addition to Liverpool’s midfield.

Speaking on the Blood Red YouTube channel, he said the following about the 24-year-old:

“He’s a midfield player who can play in a number of positions. I think he predominantly plays in central midfield, but every now and then moves a bit further forward, into I suppose a number 10-type zone. As a result of that every now and then, his return is decent.

“He’s capable of offering a few goals and assists from midfield. In the season just finished in the Bundesliga alone, he scored six, assisted five, which is a decent return.

“You probably get the vibe that he’s got a fair few minutes behind him, which again is a big Liverpool thing if they’re going to commit to a signing.

“He’s never, never injured. His last injury was in 2017, obviously it’s 2021 now. So yeah, it’s one to keep an eye on.”

TIF Thoughts on Florian Neuhaus potentially joining Liverpool…

Although without the services of Wijnaldum Liverpool have a fairly competent midfield in Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara, Liverpool’s midfield has desperately lacked goal contributions in recent years.

As Williams points out, Neuhaus is certainly a midfielder that could help Liverpool fix their problems, as his 16 goal contributions in all competitions for the German outfit was more than any Liverpool midfielder managed last season.

Two midfield options Liverpool possess that could arguably add more threat are Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita. However, the pair of struggled massively with injury problems so far during their time on Merseyside, with Keita and Oxlade-Chamberlain making 33 combined appearances in all competitions for Klopp’s side last season.

This is another area where Neuhaus excels, having only missed one Bundesliga game last season, and that was due to suspension. He could certainly be an option for Klopp and Michael Edwards.
